Mills says demand increases after Bolt success this season

Glen Mills, coach of the world's fastest man and Olympic sprint double champion Usain Bolt, said there is a significant increase in interest from other countries wishing to send their athletes to join his Kingston-based training camp.

"I've been getting request from several countries in the past and it has increased with a great pressure (after Beijing)," Mills said. "We are under a lot of pressure to take on a lot of people.

"I have to tell them no because I don't want people to come and feel that they are not given just attention for their money."

Mills, the head coach of Racers Track Club, guided Bolt to a phenomenal 2008 season which saw the Jamaican sprinter claiming his status as track and field's premier sprinter.

Following Bolt's highlighting season, the veteran sprint coach who also conditioned St Kitts and Nevis Kim Collins to a World title in 2003, said the requests has increased immensely, but pledged he will not take on more than he can handle.

"We will take in a controlled amount of persons because there is a limit to how many persons that can actually get the kind of attention that we offer to our athletes in racers track club," Mills stated. "So the amount is going to be controlled."

Mills said there will be some new faces at Racers this coming season. He noted that quarter-milers Jermaine Gonzales, the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, former NCAA champion Ricardo Chambers and twice World Junior silver medallist Sonita Sunderland are some of those joining the club.

"Our numbers will increase this season," he said. "Gonzales and Sunderland will join us and Chambers is also coming home to train with us.

"We also have Trinidadian sprinter Emmanuel Callander here with us, he ran the third leg on the sprint relay team in Beijing, so we have a few but we don't want a large number."

Meanwhile, despite the high demand from groups to have Mills broaden his horizons internationally, he revealed he has no intentions of leaving what he has already started at racers.

"I have no intentions of leaving what I have right now. I want to continue to building the club."
