Jamaican former World record holder Asafa Powell ran away with the men's 100 meters dash in 9.82 seconds at Sunday's Rieti Grand Prix.

Powell ran faster in his semifinal heat on Sunday, clocking 9.77 — 0.08 seconds off the current world record of 9.69 set by fellow Jamaican Usain Bolt at last month's Beijing Olympics.

After seven races in five days I'm a little tired," Powell said. "Now, I'm going on vacation.

"The rivalry with Usain will resume in 2009, which will be an important year with the world championships, but who knows if he and I will have the same form as this year."

A year ago, Powell set a then-world record of 9.74 in Rieti.

Powell was helped by a slight tail wind in both of his heats on Sunday. The meet was likely his final competition of the season.

Powell's training partner and fellow countryman Michael Frater ran his second sub-10 second of the season and his career when he finished second in 9.98. Ronald Pognon of France was third in 10.10.

Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser defeated countryman Kerron Stewart again on circuit after she won the women's race in 11.06 -- beating Stewart, at 11.11

Another Olympic champion Melaine Walker of Jamaica who impressively recovered from smashing an hurdles, continued her good showing in the 400m hurdles after she won her pet event in a comfortable time of 55.01.
