Bolt prepared for Beijing double

Four days after getting the green light to chase the unprecedented sprint double in Beijing, World 100m record holder Usain Bolt said he is definitely ready for the dual.

After months of speculations, Coach Glen Mills confirmed Bolt's participation in both the 100m and 200m at the Olympic Games and the 21-year-old who ran only the 200m at the last three global athletics competitions, is excited about going the rounds.

"I am going out there to win the double," Bolt, whose world record of 9.72seconds and career best of 19.67secs, leads the world over 100m and 200m this season.

"I was 80% certain that I would do the double - but after hearing what my coach has been saying, now I am 100% certain!

"I have been conditioning myself all year in case I plan to run the double. I have been doing 200m and 100m over the season. I am used to the heats. I don't think it will take too much out of me," he added.

Bolt seeks to become the first man since American legend Carl Lewis' feat in Los Angeles, 24 years ago, to win an Olympic Games sprint double.

He has been tipped by some of the great in the sport, including former Olympic champion and record holders Donavon Bailey of Canada and American Maurice Greene to win the 100m, an event he has come to love with every stride.

Trinidadian Olympian Ato Boldon also backed the statements of Greene and Bailey, adding that the Jamaican will not only win the sprint double in Beijing, but he will also be an integral member of his country's team, favoured for gold in the sprint relay.

Meanwhile, Tyson Gay said on Tuesday that he will definitely be ready to face his Jamaican rivals Bolt, Asafa Powell and others in the 100m dash, after recovering from a hamstring problem he picked up at the American trials.

The first round of the men's 100m will get underway on Wednesday 15 August.
