Powell says he will be fit for London clash with Gay

Jamaica's former World record holder Asafa Powell has said he will be ready to face American sprint ace, Tyson Gay in the 100-metres at Friday's Aviva London Grand Prix.

Powell sustained a slight groin injury at the Golden League meeting in Rome earlier this month and then pulled out of the Paris Golden League meeting on Friday, but he has promised to be at full strength for his London clash with Gay.

"What happened in Rome was just a cramp. It is nothing and will not keep me out of the Grand Prix at Crystal Palace," he said on Sunday, adding that he is looking forward to the match up.

The fitness of Gay is also in question after the world sprint double champion pulled a hamstring muscle during the U.S. Championships.

Meanwhile, Powell will warm up for his clash with Gay when he race again fellow countryman and world record holder Usain Bolt at the DN Galan meeting in Stockholm on Tuesday.
