Gay admits that Bolt 'looked good' in Kingston

17 May 2008

By Gary Smith

Just like everyone else who saw the race or has seen the results, American World Championships sprint double champion Tyson Gay has acknowledged that Usain Bolt's run in Kingston, during the Jamaica International Invitational was remarkable.

Speaking at the press conference on Friday for Sunday's 2008 adidas Track Classic at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Gay said he didn't saw the race live but, after watching the replay afterwards, he too admits that the lanky half-lap speciallist "looked good" in the race.

"About the Bolt's time, it's a fast time," a smiling Gay said. "I didn't really get to watch the race live, but I saw it later on the computer.

"He looked good, and," he said with a pause, before repeating, "It's a fast time," again with a smile on his face.

Bolt clocked a sizzling 9.76-seconds to win the event and became the second fastest ever in the history of 100m running, second to only his fellow countryman Asafa Powell, who last September, ran 9.74 in the heats during an IAAF Grand Prix meeting in Italy.

Bolt and Gay are scheduled to meet each other over the 100m in New York, at the 2008 Reebok Track Classic.

Meanwhile, despite the slow start to her season, which saw her being upset on her home turf earlier this month, Olympic 200m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown says she is quite happy with the way her season has been going so far.

"I'm satisfied with the way my training has been going," she said. "The main focus is to run really fast at the trials and this summer so I'm satisfied.

"Training has been going well. I'm working hard. I'm just going to put my best effort and hopefully I can PR this year," she added.
