St Kitts and Nevis's Collins says he's not a quitter

St Kitts and Nevis sprint hero Kim Collins has said that despite critics sounding for him to quit the sport and watch from the stands, he is still motivated to carry on striving for more success, as he never sees himself as a quitter.

After capturing a bronze medal at the 2005 world championships, Collins suffered injury setbacks, which hindered him from running competitively in last few seasons.

Nonetheless, the 2003 World champion who, not for the first time, rose about all expectations to capture a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia, in March, said he continues to compete at the highest level, because it is his life.

"Most people told me, 'You just have to quit and go home'," Collins said. "But I'm not a quitter. This is what I love to do.

"For me to quit, I might as well be dead. I've been having a couple bad years, and people were saying, 'He's done, he's done.' But you can't give up."

The 100m has become one of the most appetizing events in track and field in last couple of years. At times it can be difficult to predict, as many new stars are popping up from every corner as of late.

However, a veteran at major championships, Collins still believes in his own abilities and is expecting a place on the podium at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, in August.

While many might be pressing for the number one position in Beijing, Collins said he just wants a medal, no matter what colour it is.

"I have one goal this year: To be on the podium again in Beijing. I don't care what colour it is, but I need to be on the podium," he said.

"All of us are beatable. You just have to find out a way to get in their head. And some people always have bad days.

"So if you have a bad day on the final in Beijing, too bad for you."
