Three Caribbean sprinters have already been confirmed for one of the premier track and field meets in the United States, the annual Prefontaine Classic, organisers announced on Monday.

The May 28 meeting at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, will see Jamaicans Dwight Thomas, Michael Frater and Trinidad and Tobago's Darrel Brown lining up in a 100m event, which also includes American Justin Gatlin.

Frater, the reining World outdoor 100m silver medallist and a member of Jamaica's golden team at last month's Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, is being coached by Stephen Francis, the same man in charge of world record holder, Asafa Powell of Jamaica. He has a personal best time of 10.03 seconds and he's expected to be a strong challenge to Gatlin, the world and Olympic champion in the event.

Apart from Frater, Brown, the world junior record holder and 2003 world silver medallist, has a personal best of 9.99sec and he too is expected to be amongst the top finishers. Thomas, who helped his Sprint Capitol relay side defeat Maurice Greene's HSI at last weekend’s Kansas Relays meeting, was ranked among the top sprinters in 2005 and he too should challenge for top honours.

World Indoor 60m champion Leonard Scott of USA and 2004 Athens Olympic 200m champion Shawn Crawford are the other top sprinters already confirmed for the event.
