World-record hasn't changed me, says Bolt

10 June 2008

By Gary Smith

World 100m record holder Usain Bolt has said that nothing about him had changed since running the world mark at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York, on 31 May.

The Jamaican broke fellow countryman Asafa Powell's 9.74-seconds previous mark with a flashing 9.72-secs at the Icahn Stadium, but he said there is no extra-hype in his approach to the track.

"My life has not changed since then (running the world record)," Bolt said on his arrival in Ostrava for the IAAF Golden Spike Grand Prix.

"Only journalists take more interest in my personality. I still have clear target – Olympic Games in Beijing," he added.

Before his 200m race in Ostrava, Bolt will be introduced to the stadium as the new 100m world record holder on the load speakers, but he said it will not affect his performance - adding though that he is looking forward to performing in his new position.

"I do not assume that it (record holder position) will affect my performance somehow," he said. "But nevertheless I am looking forward to playing the new role."

Bolt will make his seasonal debut in the 200m, an event he gave his all to before this season major turn around.

However, despite labeled as the overwhelming favourite for the title, he was not ready for predictions.

"The time I would achieve I am not able to predict. Let us surprise," he said.
