Carl Lewis won't put pressure on Olympic 100m favourites

American sprint legend Carl Lewis has said that he would not pick a name from the group of athletes vying for the 100-metre title at this summer's Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

However, Jamaican World record holder Usain Bolt, his fellow countryman Asafa Powell, the former record holder and American world sprint double champion Tyson Gay are the three athletes he believes are currently strongest for the illustrious global crown.

Lewis said his reason for not announcing a possible contender for title was merely to keep the pressure off, while the sprinters prepare for the Olympics.

"It would not be fair to name one, that could bring too much pressure," Lewis, who is currently in the Czech Republic as part of the promotion for the Ostrava Golden Spike meet, said in a report.

"Of course I m American, but still I will not say any name. Most important is that the fans see a clean race.

He added: "A race of best eighth sprinters who will be in Beijing, that fans will be driven crazy and that the sprinters will be able after crossing the finish line shake their hands."

Lewis also said that there is no real prediction on how fast the human can actually go.

"I think it will always get better and better. We cannot predict any limits."

At the Reebook Grand Prix in New York City, last weekend, Bolt erased Powell's 9.74 world record - lowering it to 9.72-secs in front of a strong Jamaican support at the Icahn Stadium.
