Chambers aims to compete in 2012

3 May 2008

Dwain Chambers hopes he can overturn his Olympic ban and wants to compete at the 2012 London Games, despite his attempt at a career in rugby league.

Chambers is on trial with Castleford after being frozen out by UK Athletics following his two-year ban for drugs.

He said: "No matter what happens with the rugby league adventure I hope to get the Olympic ban overturned.

"If there is no offer from Castleford, I will do a couple of British League meets and see how fast I am running."

The 30-year-old former European 100m champion is waiting to hear if he will be offered a contract by Super League side Castleford after spending a month with them.

Chambers insists he "badly wants the chance to prove myself" at Castleford.

But he maintains that his ultimate desire is to represent Great Britain at the Olympics for the second time after finishing fourth in Sydney in 2000.

"I will keep battling on," he added in The Telegraph. "I want to finish my sporting career on the track.

"I will only be 34 (in 2012), which is not ancient for a sprinter."

Chambers won a silver medal in the 60m at last month's World Indoor Championships, but is banned from running in this year's Olympics because of a British Olympic Association by-law.
