Briton’s 2004 Olympic 4?100-metres relay gold medallist Darren Campbell has insisted that athletes should have no more excuses for missing drugs tests.
Earlier this week Campbell’s Athens Olympic relay-winning teammate Mark Lewis-Francis revealed he was one strike away from suffering the same fate as 400m star Christine Ohuruogu, who got a year-long ban for missing three tests.
“There is no room for excuses. Athletes should now fully understand the severity of missing three tests,” Campbell said.
Meanwhile, Lewis-Francis, who held off American Maurice Greene on the final leg to see Britain to the Olympic gold medal said he believes he’s in a sticky position right now.
“I don’t know how I’m going to do it,” the 25-year-old said. “I have two strikes. I am on the final line, I am on the wire. I am not ashamed of it.
“My two are for being lazy. I have to report every move that I do to make sure I don’t miss the testers. It’s a hassle, a big, big hassle.
“You have to live with it. I feel like I am back at school and I have to report to the headmaster everywhere I go.”
