The big favourites booked their spot for the finals of the World Championships women’s 4x400 relay on the 8th day of competition in Osaka.

The Americans, running without Sanya Richards and Allyson Felix won the second of the two heats in a world leading time of 3:23.37 to lead all qualifiers into the deciding race.

Russia also looked good when they won their heat without two of their main quarter-milers in 3:23.49. Previous world leaders Belarus (3:25.14); Great Britain (3:25.45) and Jamaica (3:26.14) who all left out key runners for the finals, also made it through.

Ana Guevara ran a scorching final leg to send Mexico into the finals, while Zulia Calatayud helped Cuba in the crown race also.

The Americans are also strong favourites to win the women’s 4x100 relay after producing a fast 42.24 year best time to win their semi-finals in the morning session.
