World Sprint double champion American Tyson Gay has said he will be taking a break from the 200-metre for the rest of the 2007 season.
“It’s just so long, you know,” Gay said Friday, a day after winning the 200 to complete his sprint double at the world championships.
Gay is uncertain about his schedule for the rest of the season, but it’s likely to focus on the 100.
“I’m going to get a lot of rest first,” he said. “I’m not for sure where I’m going to take a vacation, but I want to go somewhere nice on the beach and have a nice vacation for about a week or so.
“I’m going to try to get some energy back, get refocused, because I still have some things I want to work on. And I still want to finish up the year with some great times so I can go in next year with a positive mind.”
Gay said he might relocate his training base, possibly to Orlando, Fla. That’s where his coach Lance Brauman, released from a federal prison earlier this week, is reported to be in a halfway house.
