Asafa Powell showed that he will be out for redemption in Osaka at the World Championships after he anchored Jamaica home in world-leading and national record 38.03 seconds time in the men’s 4?100m relay semi-finals.

Collecting the baton behind the Americans, Powell quickly closed the gap on Leroy Dixon, before shutting it down impressively to lead the Caribbean side into the final race with the fastest time.

The Americans, running without sprint double champion Tyson Gay finished second in the heat in 38.10.

A good run also came from home-side Japan, as they produced an Asian record time of 38.21 for a final slot.

In the first heat, Brazil, running in the outside line clocked 38.27 to hold off heat favourites Great Britain on the last leg to book their spot in the title race. Britain, with Mark Lewis-Francis on anchor, clocked 38.33 for second place.
