Top sprinters, Veronica Campbell and Torri Edwards moved into the semi-finals of the women’s 100-metres dash on the second day of competition at the IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan.

Campbell, one of the favourites to win the women’s sprint double clocked an easy looking 11.33 to win her heat ahead of Great Britain’s Laura Turner (11.46).

Edwards also looked impressive in the morning session – clocking 11.14 to take the final of the eight-heats ahead of Nigeria’s Oludamola Osayomi, at 11.15.

Fastest of the morning, however, was American Carmelita Jeter, who posted 11.07 to win the opening heat in front of Belgium’s European champion Kim Gevaert (11.09).

Also making through to the next round were French star Christine Arron, who took the fourth heat in 11.27, Bahamian Chandra Sturrup (11.32) and defending champion Lauryn Williams (USA, 11.41).
