Powell, Campbell lead Jamaican team for Osaka

Jamaica have announced a strong squad, minus Sherone Simpson and Brigitte Foster-Hylton for this month’s 11th IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan.

The squad will be led by sprinters Asafa Powell, who will lead the men’s contingent and Veronica Campbell, who heads the female team.

Another sprinter in the squad who has a strong chance of winning a gold medal is Usain Bolt, the World Junior record holder over 200m.

On the women’s side, Campbell, the Olympic champion over 200m, will again do a sprint double, as she continues prepare for another Olympic gold medal quest.

Powell will only run the 100m and a leg of 4?100m. Another strong medal contender is Novlene Williams, who will run in the women’s 400m.

Meanwhile, Simpson and Foster-Hylton have been given until August 13th to prove themselves fit for consideration. The pair did not participate in the Jamaica championships because of injuries
