Sherone Simpson to see if she’s ready for Worlds at Monaco Super Grand

25 July 2007

The Jamaican public will know today if star sprinter Sherone Simpson is ready for the upcoming World Championships when she competes at the Herculis 2007 Super Grand Prix meeting in Monaco on Wednesday.

Simpson, the 2006 fastest sprinter over 100m and 200m has been out for sometime with a hip injury, which caused her to miss the Jamaica National Championships last month and Jamaica selection panel awaits her performance to see if she should be included in the team.

The Commonwealth Games 200m champion will run in the women’s 100m dash and she will face the likes of World champion Lauryn Williams of USA, French and European record holder Christine Arron, world indoor champion Me’Lisa Barber and Carmelita Jeter.

In the women’s High Jump, Croatia’s in-form Blanka Vlasic will continue her rivalry with Sweden’s World champion Kaisa Bergqvist, while Russia’s Tatyana Lebedeva will leave the Long Jump for the time being to compete in the Triple Jump.
