Wallace Spearmon to step another 100m in Madrid

World 200m silver medalist Wallace Spearmon will again race in a 100-metre dash as he continues his preparation for the upcoming 11th IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan, starting next month.

The IAAF World Cup winner as a seasonal best of 10.20, accomplished when finishing third behind Jamaican 200m sprint ace Usain Bolt at the 23rd Vardinoyiannia track and field Area meeting in Rethymno, Greece Wednesday 18 July.

Like Bolt, who cemented himself as one of the best sprinters in this era with his 10.03 winning time on Wednesday to add to the 19.75 (200m) and 45.28 (400m) Wallace has also produced world ranked timings in the 200m (19.65) and the 400m (45.22).

The American holds a personal best of 10.11 and will line up against European sprint double champion Francis Obikwelu of Portugal, the fastest in the field this season and the only sub-10 seconds runner in the event.

Jamaica’s 2005 World silver medalist, Michael Frater and Australian specialist, Joshua Ross, who is have a good season (10.08) will also test the American 100m skills.

Meanwhile, Lauryn Williams will continue her quest to defend her world title next month by lining up in the women’s race.
