Liu, Robles set to exciting clash in Sheffield

Chinese World record holder Xiang Liu will seek revenge against his Cuban rival Dayron Robles when the pair clash in the men’s 110m Hurdles at the Norwich Union British Grand Prix in Sheffield, UK on Sunday.

Liu suffered a defeat to the Cuban World Indoor silver medallist in the Paris, two Friday’s ago and was poised for a rematch in last Tuesday’s IAAF Super Grand Prix in Lausanne, Switzerland.

However, Robles, who has been busy throughout the process of the opening week of the month of July, opted to rest - leaving Liu to win the event in 13.01.

Robles returned in Rome at the Golden Gala in the absence of Liu, but was defeated by American Anwar Moore in a closely contested race and knowing the way he hates to be beaten, the only thing on his mind as he heads to Sheffield is to turn the tables.

Meanwhile, despite Liu and Robles being the profiled hurdlers, Moore should also be considered a threat, as he always seemed to find the right performances when it matters (despite missing the chance to compete for the USA at the worlds after finishing fifth at the trials).

American Michelle Perry leads the women contenders and will be hard to beat in the sort of form she is currently in.

The World champion recently dominated the women’s 100m Hurdles at the Golden Gala - running a world leading time of 12.44 seconds and is well set to continue her winning ways in the grand circuit.

Perry will come up against Jamaica’s world silver medallist Delloreen Ennie-London, LoLo Jones and Nichole Denby of USA, world multi-athlete champion Carolina Kl?ft of Sweden and home favourite Sarah Claxton of Britain in what is expected to be another quick race, if the conditions holds out.
