Gay, Powell could clash in London

21 June 2007

Perhaps the most anticipated clash for the 2007 track and field season, the match-up between Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay is leaning towards August, a report here in Indianapolis said on Thursday.

According Powell’s agent Paul Doyle, the clash could happen in London.

“We aren’t close to an agreement but I hope to know something within a week,” Doyle was quoted as telling Reuters Thursday evening.

“We are still in the talking stages, but if it does happen, it most likely will be London.”

Ever since the suspension of World and Olympic champion Justin Gatlin, Powell has raced unchallenged, racing undefeated in the 2006 season, but with Gay looking impressive this season, a new rivalry has definitely formed.
