Injured Greene ruled out of U.S. Championships

As expected by many pundits who saw a lackluster performance in his only outdoor meeting this season, former Olympic and World 100 meters champion Maurice Greene will not take part at this week’s U.S. championships in Indianapolis.

Greene never looked himself when trailing his competition at the Adidas Track Classic in May and reports now are that the American veteran will miss the championships, which picks team USA for the IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan, because of a leg injury.

“It seems that as he got over one leg injury two weeks ago, he started pushing it at practice and injured the other leg,” his manager Emanuel Hudson was quoted as saying by Reuters.

The 32-year-old Greene who has been plagued by foot and leg injuries over the past two years is hoping, however, to become fit so as to run on the European circuit. Hudson also said that the sprinter has intentions of ending his track career as yet.

“He does intend on running this European season so he will continue to rehab and train,” Hudson explained.
