The Man Who Could Fly and the Fastest Man on Earth – Bob Beamon and Carl Lewis teamed up for a rare public appearance, Tuesday at the Town Center at Boca Raton. The occasion was the announcement of the 2007 Beamonesque Awards, presented by the annual Bob Beamon Golf & Tennis Classic.

The 9th annual Bob Beamon Golf & Tennis Classic is scheduled for October 25 and 26. The tournament benefits The Bob Beamon Organization for Youth, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the growth and leadership development of scholar athletes.

Olympic record-holder, Beamon named Lewis, holder of nine gold medals, 2007 National Beamonesque Award Recipient. Boca Raton resident and president of LEAH, Robert Alrod, was named 2007 Regional Beamonesque Award Recipient.

"I am thrilled that both Carl and Robert will accept the Beamonesque Award," said Bob Beamon. "Both of these gentlemen have dedicated many years of their lives to spreading messages of friendship and hope, particularly for our young people. They are equally committed to excellence in their chosen fields, and we are fortunate to have such wonderful role models committed to helping South Florida children, "Beamon added.

Beamonesque is a term first coined by a sportswriter at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City when Bob Beamon made his record-breaking long jump of 29’ 2_”, which beat the Olympic and World record by almost 2 feet and is the longest held Olympic record in history.
