Maurice Greene is late addition to adidas Track Classic

17 May 2007

Maurice Greene, the 2000 Olympic gold medalist and three-time World Champion, will compete at 100 meters in the adidas Track Classic this Sunday, organizers announced today.

Perhaps the greatest sprinter of all time, Greene also owns a 2000 Olympic gold medal from the 4x100m relay, along with a 2004 Olympics bronze medal at 100 meters. In that race, his time of 9.87 seconds equaled his gold-medal time of four years earlier. Greene was also the 1999 World Champion at 200 meters.

Greene will face a new American sprint star, Tyson Gay, who last season became the fastest 100m-200m combo sprinter in history. Gay finished the year ranked #1 in the world at 200 meters and #2 at 100 meters.

They join Olympic gold medalists Jeremy Wariner, Veronica Campbell, Stacy Dragila, Allen Johnson, Shawn Crawford and Meseret Defar, and World Champions Allyson Felix, Ana Guevara, Michelle Perry and Adam Nelson, among many other top world-class athletes.

The adidas Track Classic will begin at noon on May 20 at The Home Depot Center, on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, and will be broadcast live on ESPN from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. PDT (4 p.m.-6 p.m. EDT).
