Sprinters Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson, as well as middle distance runner Kenia Sinclair, were named in Jamaica’s squad to represent the country at the 113th Penn Relays scheduled to take place in Philadelphia, on 26-27-28 April 2007.

Powell, the world 100-metres record holder will lead a relatively strong men’s 4x100m relay team that will compete in the USA vs the World event at Franklin Field.

The sprinter opted out of the Mount San Antonio College (Mt SAC) Relays in California last weekend because of cold weather and a reported slight knee injury, but he is expected to be in full swing for his race which will run on Saturday April 28.

The side will also include World Championships silver medallist Michael Frater, the training partner of Powell in their Kingston-base camp, as well as Lerone Clarke and Dwight Thomas.

On the women side the team will consist of Brigitte Foster-Hylton, Palmer, Aleen Bailey and Peta-Gaye Dowdie.

Meanwhile, Simpson, the fastest female in both the 100m and 200m sprints last season, will run a 200m leg on a Jamaican sprint medley team, which also includes Novlene Williams, Nadine Palmer and Kenia Sinclair.

Simpson will expectedly run the opening half-lap with Palmer running the second. Williams will open the race with the 400m leg, while World Indoor and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Sinclair will finish off with the 800m leg.

In the meantime, the women’s team for the 4x400 relay will feature Shericka Williams, Ronetta Smith, Nadia Davy and Michelle Burger.

The men’s team will see Germaine Gonzales, Sanjay Ayre, Leeford Green and Michael Blackwood representing the country.
