Former sprint world champion Frankie Fredericks of Namibia has been hired by the German athletics federation to work with the country's male relay teams.
"Our strategic goal is to have our relays get back to the top at Olympic Games and World Championships," said German head coach Juergen Mallow.
Fredericks won the world 200m title in 1993 in Germany and was a four-time Olympic silver medallist.
The 39-year-old retired in 2004 after finishing fourth at the Olympics.
