American Wallace Spearmon has become the third fastest man in history over 200m as he claimed victory at the Daegu International in South Korea.

The 21-year-old clocked 19.65 seconds, which means only compatriots Michael Johnson (19.32) and Xavier Carter (19.63) have run faster.

"I was just very happy to break my own record," said Spearmon.

"The crowd were very involved here and it has been a great day. I am really starting to run fast."

Spearmon, who won the race by 30m, had set a then personal best of 19.87 at the IAAF World Cup in Athens on 17 September.
