Campbell to return

8 July 2006

Jamaica's Olympic 200m champion, Veronica Campbell, will make her comeback from injury at next Tuesday's Athletissima Super Grand Prix in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Campbell, who missed last month's National Championships, will face a strong field in the women's 100 meter on her return from injury.

The field will include, compatriot Sherone Simpson, the fastest woman in the world since 2004, World champion Lauryn Williams, Olympic 200m champion Allyson Felix, who missed the US Championships and 2002 triple Olympic gold medallist Marion Jones.

This will be Campbell's first outing since pulling up entering the home stretch of the 200 meters at the Gateshead Grand Prix in England on June 11.

In the men's 200m, Jamaica's World Junior 200m record holder aims to upset joint world leader American champion Wallace Spearmon.

The two last met at the Reebok Grand Prix in the United States, but Spearmon, who shared the world leading time of 19.90 with World 100m record holder Asafa Powell, came out on top.
