Gatlin won 100m title at USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

24 June 2006

Justin Gatlin, the Olympic and World champion, won 100m title at the US Championships in Indianapolis on Friday.

Gatlin led from start to finish in the final, but a 1.2 metres-per-second headwind did not allow him to attack the world record of 9.77 seconds he shares with Jamaican Asafa Powell.

"It is nice to win but I am disappointed that I couldn't really attack the world record," said Gatlin, who had hoped for perfect conditions on the superfast Indianapolis track.
