Asafa Powell ran 9.77 seconds at the Norwich Union British Grand Prix to equal the 100-metre world record he holds with Justin Gatlin.

Powell had some words for rival Gatlin after the race: "That's how you run a world record."

"I told everyone I can run as fast as I want to when I want to. I said I would do my best here and I didn't let them down."

"I ran 9.77 last year and I have proved I can do it again. It shows I am back to where I started last year and I am going to finish the season at the top," Powell said.

"I don't know what (the record) is going to be, but it's going to be a lot faster than that," Powell added. "This year I'm feeling a lot stronger, and that means I'm faster, so there's no doubting it."

Powell earned a $50,000 bonus for his run in front of a crowd of 8,500.

Dwain Chambers showed he was back to form after a two-year drugs ban to take third in an impressive time of 10.07, behind Jamaican Michael Frater.

"The past has gone now and I can look forward to the future," said Chambers.
