Olympic champion Veronica Campbell of Jamaica broke 11 seconds to win the women's 100m dash at the Adidas Track Classic held at the Home Depot Center here in Carson, California, on Sunday.

Shaking off back-to-back defeats to compatriot Sherone Simpson in the 200m, Campbell returned to win the dash in 10.99sec. The time was her second sub 11sec performance in two-years, following her 10.96 clocking to win last year.

"I'm just having fun this year since there are no major championships going on," Campbell said after her race on Sunday. "Everything I do this year is I'm just doing it in preparation for 2007-2008, so basically I am just having fun this year."

"This is my first 100m this season and I am quite happy. 10.99, what more can I asked for," she added.

Campbell, who finished second at the IAAF World Championships in Helsinki, last summer, replaced fellow Jamaican Kerron Stewarts as the world-leader in the event this season. Stewarts' previous time was 11.03

Finishing second to Campbell was World Indoor 60m gold medal winner MeLisa Barber of USA in 11.06, while Torri Edwards, an ex-world champion (11.17), Muna Lee (11.23) and Jamaican Aileen Bailey (11.27) followed behind.

Jamaican-born American sprinter Sanya Richards took command of the women's 200m from the gun to cross the line first in 22.42, slightly aided by a 2.3 mph wind.

Americans swept the top three positions with Crystal Cox (22.61) and LaShauntea Moore (22.64) taking second and third respectively.

Bahamian 2000 Sydney Olympic relay gold medallist Debbie Ferguson finished fifth in the race in 22.76.
