I threw shotput for 2 years in high school, and I never figured out how much it weighs. What is the standard weight of a shot put?

Hi,
there are different weights for the shot puts, but since you mentioned you did throw in high school you most likely threw a 12 pound shotput (or 5.44 kgs) the adult men throws 16 pounds (or 7.26 kgs) and the women (adult and high school) throws 8.8 pounds (or 4 kgs). |

You'll probably never know, because there are different weights. It depends on what was standard in your high school league. You could go back to your high school to find out what they used, but I doubt you want to do that.

You most probably threw the 12 pound version, especially if your high school ran in competitions and suchlike where that's the standard weight of the shot.
Just out of interest, were you any good? It's not really something I've ever really wanted to try based on the strain on the upper body and skill needed to perfect the launch. |
