Talking about types of exercise that are detrimental to our running or T&F training and performance-what exercises would be of harm to us?

I know that with musical instruments, playing some things means never being able to play others-like flute and trumpet don't mix. So what about exercises?

I don't think I've really heard of anything you shouldn't do if you compete in track and field. Some things may not help as much as others could, but whether you work on endurance, weights, or aerobics it all can be used.

The only thing that I could think potentially would be something that developed slow twitch muscle, but honestly I don't even know what that would be. Maybe cross country running-something that is all about endurance and so on and not the explosive starts. Do you think that might be the case?

See I've seen things on this forum where people suggest that only fast twitch development is good. Now is that just because there isn't enough time for doing both or because one lessens the effects of the other-I guess that's what I am trying to find out.

I would think the two would overlap at some point. You can easily train both and just focus mroe on the one you need more (fast twitch). I was always taught to focus on overall fitness first then specialized skills needed for competing.

So basically if you don't neglect your competition training for your other stuff, then you should be ok? It just always seemed strange when people say that you should do one thing and not another.
