Baylor's Clyde Hart has been named one of five finalists for the United States Olympic Committee’s national coach of the year.
Hart, who serves as Baylor’s director of track and field after 42 years as the head coach, was named the USA Track & Field coach of the year in 2006 when he led 400-meter pupils Jeremy Wariner and Sanya Richards to undefeated seasons.
Wariner and Richards earned a share of the IAAF Golden League Jackpot for winning all six races in the prestigious series and were also named the Jesse Owens Award winners as the USA Track & Field athletes of the year.
The other coach of the year finalists are USA Wrestling’s Steve Fraser, U.S. Ski and Snowboard’s Bud Keene, U.S. Speedskating’s Ryan Shimabukuro and USA Cycling’s Andy Sparks.
