What are your tips for finding a rhythm. I count in fours. I know it keeps my mind off how tired I am getting and I stay more consistent. I am wondering who else has a trick.

I like to count or sing in my head, kind of like a cadence in the military. Anything to keep me from focusing on how much farther or how hot I am. It definitely helps keep me going.

Exactly like grasshopper, I use marching songs. I spent a long time marching long distances (up to 25 miles in a day) and came to rely heavily on the squad using marching songs. I may be on my own on the track but it helps none the less.

I've never thought of using cadences in running, although I've been known to sing to myself and count. I tend to lose count and get frustrated trying to remember what number I was on though. I'll have to try and find some cadences to try out.

My rhythm is strongly influenced by my breathing. I learned the technique when hiking when younger and found that my asthma affected me less if I hiked/climbed in time-my steps that is-with my breathing. I am sure that it has no physical benefits but it helps take my mind off being out of breath.

Well I don't do cadences or rhythms or ne thing only when i'm doing power speed trainig and i try to beet the number of steps in that time.
However, when i'm doing something like the 400m, during my floating stride part, I push off with one leg hard and then push off the other leg when i feel like i'm gonna have to....which makes my rhythm.
